Clutch fan vs electric fan cfm

In my opinion, it's not worth replacing a simple and reliable clutch-driven fan in exchange for a more failure-prone and only marginally more efficient electric fan -- unless the viscous clutch needs to be replaced, which can be costly. There really is no aftermarket fan that can compete with these factory Ford fans. They move roughly of 4000 CFM. The best aftermarket fans move around 3000 CFM. But the amperage cost is there as well. Clutch fan will not cause other issues. Plus you can find other fans with other diameters and pitched and blades if you don't like the results. Frok the MP books, the viscous 5 blade fan is the unit that has the best & most factor. Not the 7 blade fan. CFM - Max Airflow . Manufacturers rate fans by CFM. CFM stands for cubic feet per minute so an electrical fan with a 1,500 CFM rating will push 1,500 cubic feet of air per minute. Follow this general guideline: 1,250 cfm for a 4-cylinder. 2,000 cfm for a 6-cylinder. 2,500 cfm for a 8-cylinderIn some cases the fan clutch is thermal so it can lock up at high temps. So it could be turning about 1200 RPM at idle compared to about 2200 RPM for an electric. The fan is not directly attached to the shaft, it is actually bolted to a viscous clutch. The clutch then sits between the fan and the shaft. The purpose of the clutch is to keep the fan at a (fairly) constant speed, and to only engage the fan when it is needed. Trouble is finding a good electric fan that can do the job. The aftermarket fans are generally useless for a Bronco. The advertising CFM ratings are pointless numbers, they do not account for the drag of pulling air through the radiator. Can be independently controlled of the engine, more reliable, and dont weigh down the water pump bearings. Every new bmw uses an electric fan. Z4M uses an electric fan. M3 only uses a clutch fan because it wasn***8217;t in the budget throw in a one-off electric fan for a relatively low production car. The electrics a run around 2000-2200 rpms and the pitch of the blades controls Cfm but the more pitch/cfm the larger the Amp draw. With the cluch fan there is always a minimal load even if the cluch is disengaged. When my fan comes on though, i notice that my tensioner jumps due to the added load on the alternator. The fan clutch is contolled by temperature (92c to 100c) and rpm. The clutch will dis-engage at 4500 rpm and re-ingage at 3250 rpm if it is the above temp range. This is a safty feature built in. Also when it is being worked hard or in high temps those electrics are not going to be able to move enough air to come even remotely close to the cfm the stock fan was able to make.
